What is "Gnosticism"? . . "Gnosis"?

    From Websters dictionary

    1. Definition of gnosticism:

the thought and practice especially of various cults of late pre-Christian and early Christian centuries distinguished by the conviction that matter is evil and that emancipation comes through gnosis

    2.Definition of gnosis

ghosis: esoteric knowledge of spiritual truth held by the ancient Gnostics to be essential to salvation.

    Paul wrote:

[I]". . . . Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? 2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV)
"That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;" Philippians 2:15 (KJV)
