7th minute: after 10 years of hearing 'It's because I'm a woman' is sounding a little old; the writer wouldn't have known that 12 years ago. The intro was to the point; the atmosphere of the film is sounding light-hearted.

17th: the poor black musician sure had nice clothes

21st: nice use of dolly, almost all the time, 3 dimensional effect

28th: nice pieces by the musician but the street people talk like they are professionals in business

38th: in general, it's taking its time getting going

44th: the heat bothered her in the opening but now most of the churchgoers are hot and she's fine, hmmm

54th: great talk by the homeless gal Francis, but in general there's just a lack of reality in issues and directing

58th: Hmmm, Francis builds a fire in the BBQ at the back porch

69th: do kids who don't want to be seen smoking, do it in front of one the stores in small town?

86th: it continues to be a bit embarrassing. Now there's a scene about praying for the temporary church to rebuild and no one says anything during prayer. ??? It just doesn't seem to be a film you'd want to watch or have other people watch, because the stodginess of church administration is not a popular topic (!), and there is only the one redeeming feature of the homeless lady's speech.

Almost all music is 'churchy' music, but the blues by the guitarist are nice.

    A LONG WAY OFF

    2014

Tired of his father's traditional ways, Jacob heads to the city to make his fortune.

See you here for an online exchange about the production values...or theology...

Sounds like a modern variation on the prodigal son; a story which is supposed to be about the one who stayed home.

    Great opening music.

    Good casting--facial features, built-in characteristics.

Fairly good production values in the first 10 mins.

Good reaction shots in the editing--often overlooked at this level.

17th: while the pace of the intro may have been too slow or soft for some, at least the radio scan scene on his drive to the city was a quick montage of the things thrown at us.

So far, the script has not identified anything (actions by any of the family) as Christian or otherwise. No 'placed' Bibles etc... This stretches out the secular viewer potential.

(sorry I have to go and take care of a family call)

One other production feature was how well the framing matched the mood on tights and conversations.
