Actually its a rather variable trait. Lots are born with little to no foreskin, others have a lot. You could view circumcision as a way of stanardizing everyone. It also has some medical benefits. In my family's case there have been problems for the uncircumcised males in the family later in life.

I don't see any good reason for a Christian to circumcise their child.

Circumcision is genital mutilation. Doing it to children is barbaric, needlessly subjecting them to pain, suffering and potential sexual dysfunction.

Consider that circumcision today does not resemble the circumcision God commanded. Originally, the Hebrews only cut off the tip of the foreskin, unlike the radical circumcision of today that can cause irreparable damage to the frenulum and consequently sexual dysfunction later in life.

If you believe there are benefits to circumcision, I suggest you allow a boy to mature to the point that he can decide for himself if that is what he wants. Research the adverse effects of circumcision. Read the stories of men who have suffered from the genital mutilation imposed on them.

Considering one estimate is 96% of infant circumcisions are performed without anesthesia, how do you imagine it feels for a child? At least the adult can give informed consent and understands what is being done to him.

It's not a "Biblical" thing to do in this dispensation. (and I have also read that it isn't even the same, like Doormat said) I think an adult should decide what modifications they want performed on their own crotch.

Infants are actually more sensitive to pain than adult humans. Circumcision is an extremely painful experience for babies, so painful that it can cause neurogenic shock.

What is "neurogenic shock"? See: http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Neurogenic_shock

Qua Christian, I don't think that it matters one way or the other.

We are no longer under the law.

Circumcision of the heart is a much better choice. Our hearts need reflect our commitment to God's truths.

I don't know what kind of hospital you had your child done at, but the one i used gave my son pain medicine before they did it.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. But you don't really need to know the nuances when you reject it based on lack of consent, a pedophiles preference, etc.

As for standardisation... Why? Variety is the spice of life. (In reference to other things varied not foreskin).

I'm sure all of you are aware of the pedophillic circumcision method practised (and from what I know) still legal in New York?

Religiously it doesn't matter. Beyond that I have no opinion, as I do not know very much about it.

I almost completely agree with this; I don't care about culture, but the rest is spot on.

All I know is that a long time ago a father of a boyfriend had his son circumcised when he was born here in the States because when he had been born in Holland he was not circumcised. This father said it was a lot of trouble for him and he wanted to save his son from that.

The act as part of a religion bears remembering because who doesn't want to understand the spiritual message?
But I agree it is not given to Christianity.

And who dares talk about barbaric? You would not have sex then since females are virgins?
