  • JOHN 20:23 IS NOT FOR THE CHURCH

John 20:23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

This was spoken to the disciples; there is nothing in this verse that could substantiate applying this to the church, the body of Christ today.

Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

The time frame of this is the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God consists of a heavenly and earthly component (1 Chronicles 29:11). The earthly kingdom is in view here based on Matthew 16:19 saying it is on earth. During the earthly kingdom Peter will be given power to remit sins just as the other disciples.

    The Keys to the Kingdom

Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Repent, turn away from sin. Remission, the cancellation of a debt, charge, or penalty of sin. Gift of the Holy Ghost is eternal life.

Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles
Act 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Act 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Act 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
Act 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

The "afar off" people refers to the Israelite's scattered into gentiles lands. This is clear since Peter was preaching to "men of Israel" (Acts 2:22).

Cornelius was a righteous gentile that blessed Israel. He was not "the heathen" that Paul agreed to preach to in Galatians 2.

Act 10:1-2 KJV There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, (2) A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

      "The people" refers to Israel.

        Let's see about that.

The Gospel of John was considered the last of the four Gospels to be written. Most scholars today give it a date between 90 CE and 100 CE, though some scholars suggest an even later date.
Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 CE, so the Gospel of John was written after the children of Israel went into captivity.
Shortly before the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 CE, John moved to Ephesus where he became the pastor of the church there.
All evidence points to the fact that John wrote the Gospel of John for the church.

What makes you think that John did not write the Gospel of John for the church?

The book of John reveals Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God. Paul preached at first Jesus as the Son of God, Christ as the foundation of his gospel. John however does not have doctrine for the body of Christ, Paul does.

If that is true, rip the pages out of your Bible.

                Then what is apostolic doctrine?

Having the Gospel of John in your Christian Bible would only confuse the Christians that are supposed to listen to Paul alone.

                        • Paul listened to the same Jesus and Holy Spirit that the eleven disciples listened to.
                        • Paul listened to a different Jesus and a different Holy Spirit than the eleven disciples listened to.

It may confuse Churchianity, but I can handle it just fine.

You have a terrible lack of discernment.
