  • Why Is Donald Trump Receiving So Much Support From Evangelicals?9

Although there are a number of reasons for Evangelical voters to not vote for misogynistic billionaire and presidential candidate Donald Trump, his early success in attracting the interest of some Evangelicals has many wondering, what is "The Donald's" appeal?

Even though Trump previously supported abortion, has liberal views on gay marriage, often makes derisive remarks about women and has publicly proclaimed that he doesn't seek God's forgiveness, the self-proclaimed Presbyterian has had no trouble in garnering a plurality of support from Evangelicals, according to two published polls.

Although it would seem to make more sense for Evangelicals to get behind God-fearing politicians like Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, or former Southern Baptist pastor and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, it was Trump who finished first among white Republican-leaning Evangelical voters with 20 percent in a July Washington Post-ABC News national primary poll. In a recent Monmouth University poll of Evangelical voters in Iowa, Trump finished second (behind retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson) with 23 percent of the Evangelical vote.

The vast majority of evangelicals are very authoritarian in their psychological and ideological temperament.

This essay explains in depth why authoritarians have been overwhelmingly supporting Donald Trump. And what it means for the future of American politics.

      essay here

"He polled a large sample of likely voters, looking for correlations between support for Trump and views that align with authoritarianism. What he found was astonishing: Not only did authoritarianism correlate, but it seemed to predict support for Trump more reliably than virtually any other indicator."

just a guess, but i'd say they're so fed up with the runaround they've been getting from the RNC for the last 28 years, they welcome to opportunity to stick a rusty fork in the eye of the RNC, no matter the cost

besides, 8 years of bammy has proven that this country can survive anybody in the white house

It appears that many Christians have allowed anger at the political establishment instead of reason to rule in their decisions.

Pretty shallow article. Low expectation of Obama makes them pick a hardly acceptable Trump. How silly. Perhaps they are drawn to the shiny object and set their faith aside in this instance. Obama never presented himself as deeply spiritual as W did. W probably woke them up. He was the pastor in the analogy of the plane going down in this article. President before W who put his faith out there was Carter. Hopefully they are not using religion as a litmus test. Results so far for that haven't been very good.

Sadly, I think they are using themselves as their 'litmus test'. They vote for whomever looks and sounds most like themselves. And that this 'likeness' is Donald Trump ought to shock and shame them. But it won't.

By the way, EVERYTHING is Omaba's fault, so that was given.
