Freedom From the Law and Religion

"Who has made us able ministers of the New Testament; NOT of the letter (The Law) but of the Spirit: for the letter (Law) kills, but the Spirit gives life" 2 Corinthians 3:6.

Law and religion do not bring life, they bring death. Paul said, "For the letter (The Law) kills, but the Spirit brings life".

Religion, whether it be the Calvinist religion, the Catholic religion or whatever religion they all bring death not life. Have you ever noticed how morbid and depressing the Catholic religion is? It is no wonder that the priest wear black. They do not have any joy in their salvation, it is all like gloom and doom.

The words "LAW" and "RELIGION" basically mean the same thing. When one is doing their religion, they are doing the law. When they are doing the law they are doing their religion. The words are related and mean the same thing.

Paul wrote, "For I was without the law once; but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died and the commandment which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death" Romans 7:9, 10.

Law based religions bring death, not life, according to the apostle Paul. Those that are on the Forum who are encouraging us to live by the commandments are ministers of death. I didn't say that, Paul is saying that. Did you hear him?

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO LIVE BY THE SPIRIT?

To live by the Spirit is to live by the Gospel and not by religion or law. Religious people are preoccupied with sin. The Spirit led Christian is not concerned about sin, he believes that sin has ALREADY been abolished by his death with Christ. "For he that is dead is freed from sin" Romans 6:7. When Jesus died on the cross we died with him. It is not untill you are free from sin that you can have power over sin.

When Jesus walked out of Joseph's new tomb we walked out with him. This is the beginning of God's new world order and the beginning of our new humanity. "If any man be "IN CHRIST" he is a new creation" 2 Corinthians 5:17. God now sees those that have believed on his Son Jesus Christ as new creations in Jesus Christ. It doesn't matter what you believe about yourself or what others believe about you. What matters is how God sees you. God sees us as perfect and complete "In Christ" Colossians 2:10. Not because of what we are, but because of what Christ is and what he has accomplished on our behalf.

Pate, you continue to post the same outdated message. In Paul's day the law for all Jews was the Jewish law which is not relevant to people today.

Why are you living in the past?

The Christ event (The Gospel) was a one time event that changed the history of the world.

"God was "IN CHRIST" reconciling us and the world unto himself" 2 Corinthians 5:18, 19.

In order for Jesus to do that he had to abolish the law, sin, death and the devil.

It is very relevant for today.

Are you saying people are no longer able to sin, no longer subject to death and no longer subject to the devil's influence?

God's Spirit leads us in accordance with God's law. There are consequences for sin which is defined by God's law

The Bible is a spiritual book.

You don't have a clue as to what I am saying because you don't have the Holy Spirit.

God's Spirit leads us to Jesus Christ and his Gospel, not the law that kills.

Religion in the NT means to worship. The NT believes there is a wrong kind of worship and a right to worship.

"If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless. Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world" (James 1:26-27).

Just to down the word religion is too broad. One secular definition is " a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith." In that respect atheism can qualify as a religion.

Religion defines a person's faith and there are people of different faiths.

A person without religion is a person without faith. Even atheists have faith in their religion of no God.

A person without religion is a person without faith and is an empty soul, a well without water, a tree without fruit.

In my opinon religion is just the opposite of faith.

If Jesus is your savior why do you need a religion?

Faith in Christ is the only thing that is going to save you. There is no saving merit in religion.

Blessed are those who do His commandments... (Revelation 22:14 NKJV)

Where do we learn about God's commandments?

Certainly not from you.

:nono:

The only way that you can do the commandments is to be "In Christ". God must see you as perfect and complete "In Christ" Colossians 2:10. then you will have done the commandments.

For now you are a sinner, Romans 3:10. Sinners cannot do or keep the commandments. Even if they did it would count for nothing.

No. Is he on television?

I don't think so. He's a pastor and has a channel on YouTube. Here's his mission statement:

The message of Christ's Finished Work is the message of the New Covenant. This covenant provides the believer with all things, as the blood of Jesus was shed for our redemption, sanctification and justification; and the body of Jesus was broken for our wholeness and healing.

The Covenant of Grace teaches us that there is no condemnation to the believer (Romans 8:1) and that the power to live a life free from the dominion of sin is found in the knowledge that you are under the power of grace and not the power of the law (Romans 6:14). The believer is not trying to become righteous through their merit or works (Galatians 2:21; Titus 3:5), but they ARE the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). This ministry is dedicated to preaching that basic, simple truth to the believer, in the midst of a world of deception (2 Corinthians 11:3).

We do not present the Law as the standard for man to live by, as it is the ministry of death and condemnation (2 Corinthians 3:6-11), but rather that the righteous live by a new Law, which is the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:2). We believe that when you go from hearing the truth to knowing the truth, you will be made free! (John 8:31,32)

Chances are that he won't last long. People do not want that much truth today. They want to hear something about them. They want to hear about how they can please God by their good works and their piety.
